Summer is in full season and I’ve been following my energy.
Over the last few months I’ve chosen things that give me energy, including:
Movement
I’m walking, running and hiking daily. Exercise and movement are native to our way of being. It’s what we’re designed to do.
Nature
I’m choosing environments that offer maximum exposure to nature. The sun is our highest source of natural energy. The forest is an organic form of shelter. Water is our native means of renewal.
Adventure
I’m exploring my world and pushing my limits. I’m navigating further and deeper into new territory. I’m expanding my range physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Silence
I’m spending more time in self reflection and quiet environments. Less talking, more presence. Less input, more knowing. Less noise, more awareness.
Change
I’m embracing change in various ways. Letting go of previous attachments. Disrupting old patterns. Creating space for new agreements and boundaries.
As a result I feel more energized and human than ever. In fact, there are consequences to this way of being!
- I don’t want to be on screens, apps, Zoom calls, or any device that aims to control my attention.
- I don’t want to assume any heavy commitments or long term goals.
- I don’t want to create anything that’s out of alignment with my values.
Instead, I want to continue following my energy.
What does it mean to follow energy?
I think it means pursuing things that give you more vitality, curiosity and purpose. Things that help you show up as your authentic self.
I think it means investing in relationships and experiences that light you up. People that see all your amazing gifts and potential. Events that support your organic growth.
I also think it means trusting your entire system – mind, body and soul. Paying attention to the holistic wisdom of being human. Honoring your integrity.
Following energy isn’t always easy…
The world is quick to offer news, products and prescriptions that hijack our energy. Instead of giving us more life, we’re inundated by fear of disaster, fear of missing out, and fear of not feeling like we’re enough.
Our ego is quick to react, judge things and protect our projected sense of well being.
For example:
- We choose the phone and constant dopamine, instead of human presence.
- We choose to follow what others are doing, instead of walking our own path.
- We choose a steady paycheck, instead of an exciting new opportunity.
We tend to choose the easy and comfortable route instead of facing the hard and uncomfortable path. The path that helps us grow and thrive.
Following energy takes Courage
Things that give us energy often come with effort and uncertainty. They spark something inside of us that knows there’s more to learn. Following energy requires a braver way of being.
For example:
- It takes courage to have the tough conversations.
- It takes courage to ask for what you truly want and need.
- It takes courage to be patient and surrender to what wants to happen.
Following energy isn’t about controlling your destiny and being right. Following energy is more about flow and letting go of control.
Finding your Freedom
Following energy can give us something we all crave in one way or another. Something we’re born with. Something we fight for our entire lives…
That something is freedom.
- Freedom from stress, anxiety and constant pressure.
- Freedom for things that ignite our passion, gifts and sense of wonder.
- Freedom to invest time the way we choose.
If you follow your energy from an authentic place, I believe you will find your freedom.
