Spring is a special season.
It begins with an “Equinox” – a term I never really gave much attention to. An equinox is an important part of nature that occurs twice per year. It presents a powerful shift in our relationship to the Sun.
Here’s a general definition –
An equinox is a moment in the year when the Sun is positioned directly above Earth’s equator, resulting in roughly equal lengths of day and night (approximately 12 hours each) across the entire planet.
This year (2026) I observed the Spring Equinox with more awareness and curiosity. I allowed nature to lead me into some deeper inquiry. Here’s what I noticed –
Let’s start with some basic biology.
1. Biological Reset
Humans are deeply impacted by daylight. As days get longer after the equinox, more sunlight increases serotonin (mood) and helps regulate melatonin (sleep). Many of us will naturally feel more energized and motivated.
This awareness of more daylight is an opportunity to appreciate the sun.
Leveraging the Sun’s Energy
The sun is our greatest source of energy. Not food, water or some fancy supplement combo. The sun is what truly drives us. It powers our ability to operate. More light is essentially an invitation to feel more alive. More time in our natural state of being and doing.
So how are you aligning with this reset?
- What shifts do you feel in your body and being?
- How will you optimize more energy from the sun?
I find myself so grateful for the sun and more daylight. I take longer walks, play outside with my kids more, and generally enjoy the longer presence of the sun. I’m typically just a better human in daylight. It’s a major factor in why I choose to live in Colorado where we get 300+ days of sun.
Our biological reset is also a foundation for something new to emerge.
2. Renewal and Growth
Across cultures, spring is globally tied to rebirth. Plants start to bloom, animals become more active, and food becomes more available. Humans mirror this pattern with a desire to “start fresh.”
This awareness of new beginnings is a metaphor into our life gardens.
Tending our Life Gardens
Our life gardens are symbolic to where we invest our resources and what we give focus. Health, home, relationships, vocation and passions – all gardens in our life that need tending. These gardens often “spring” new growth around the equinox.
Create space to consider where new life is beginning for you.
- What energy is calling for your attention?
- Where might you set new goals or commit to lifestyle changes?
My life gardens have been messy and out of sync lately. The winter brought more demands and periods of darkness that felt heavy. This equinox felt like a clear turning point from that season. I sensed new energy to clean up some old messes and bring renewed focus to other priorities.
With new growth and focus, there also comes a need to rebalance.
3. Balance & Integration
Because day and night are equal during the equinox, it can also represent balance. Psychologically, we often resonate with this idea of seeking equilibrium. This reflects an attempt to rebalance things – work and rest, our inner and outer world, and other aspects of life contrast.
This awareness of balance offers an opportunity to pause and realign.
Honoring Realignment
When we honor what’s most aligned, our lives can flow with more ease, acceptance and fulfillment. This encompasses total alignment – physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Take pause to re-evaluate your holistic alignment.
- What needs to be rebalanced or integrated in your life?
- What’s out of alignment that no longer serves you?
I noticed a few big things that were out of alignment in my life. Things that have been draining my energy and creating unhealthy stress. The equinox offered a nice opportunity to gain clarity and re-prioritize before I move forward.
Living in greater alignment with our gifts, purpose and loved ones is arguably the key to life.
It’s a beautiful space where natural shifts occur. Where the world makes more sense. When we feel most alive. The Spring equinox is nature’s gift to remind us of this.
With gratitude, light and love.
