Letting Go of Attachments

Letting Go of Attachments

April 4, 2024

We create a lot of attachments in our lives.

These attachments range from small habits and items to major relationships and vocations. The things we like, the people we love, the work we do in the world, are all forms of attachments. Some of these attachments become a part of who we are.

As a result, it can be difficult to let go of attachments, especially strong ones.

For example:

  • It can be difficult to give up drinking after years of enjoying alcohol.
  • It can be difficult to end a serious romantic relationship.
  • It can be difficult to shut down a business or career.

Letting go of strong attachments requires a conscious release. It involves a transition filled with emotions. And in most cases, letting go of a strong attachment takes courage. It’s usually easier and safer to stay attached.

So why let go?

Because your freedom and transformation are found in the release.

When we let go of attachments we free up space to be with other things. When we consciously release something from our lives we accept and integrate everything it gave us. We transform the fear and uncertainty into gratitude and clarity.

When we let go, we create space to grow.

But how do you know it’s time to let go?

That’s the hard part. Your mind is great at keeping you attached. It will play ego tricks from every angle to avoid the release. It will partner with fear to keep you connected to what’s certain and comfortable.

The release comes from your heart.

Your heart always knows the way. It will guide you if you’re willing to ask the harder questions and honor your truth. It will partner with love and support you if you’re willing to create the space to listen.

Your heart is ultimately what decides to let go.

Here are some questions to ask:

  1. Is this still giving me energy?
  2. Do I still feel alignment with this?
  3. Am I better with this in my life?

When you find yourself questioning an attachment, create the space to ask if it’s time to let go.
